The aquaManager Team was a key contributor in the joint Recearch Data Alliance (RDA) Europe – BlueBRIDGE DATATHON in Fisheries and Aquaculture. The event was held in Heraklion Crete between the 15th and 16th of June 2017 and was hosted by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
During the 2-day Datathon students, researchers and scientists participated, cooperated and brainstormed on the following challenges:
- Developing a holistic approach to spatial planning for marine protected areas based on knowledge, transfer and integration.
- Assessing new fisheries and aquaculture activities and mainstreaming environmental and socioeconomic indicators.
- Incorporating socio-economic and environmental data in aquaculture assessment, strategic planning and performance analysis.
The main goal of the Datathon was to work with data from aquaculture and marine sector for deriving new knowledge. For this reason, a set of indicative datasets on the domain along with a set of indicative tasks were given. Datathon participating teams were formulated in order to compete against each other aiming to find the most outstanding discoveries from the given datasets.
aquaManager assisted in the organization of the event and supported this effort by providing datasets with crucial content. In addition, Gerasimos Antzoulatos, as a representative of aquaManager, participated in the Datathon Evaluation Committee .
Knowledge is power and we are proud of being part of endeavors that assist the development and evolution of the aquaculture sector!
